New Caledonia (France) October 2022: BYD Dolphin up to #4, market up 25%

New Caledonia is a French archipelago located north east of Australia. The local new car market is up a very solid 25% year-on-year in October to 629 registrations, leading to a year-to-date tally up 3.2% to 6,930 units. Strikingly, the Top 6 brands all outpace the market. Toyota (+74.6%) is in the lead as is the tradition, and this month it distances Ford (+34.7%) up three spots on September to #2, Hyundai (+40%) down one to #3, Peugeot (+139.1%) up two to #4, Kia (+168.8%) down one to #5 and the most impressive of all, Chinese fare BYD (+1600%). It up 11 ranks on last month to #6, new ranking record for the brand and its first time in the monthly Top 10.

Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux (+226.7%) posts a spectacular year-on-year rise to reclaim the top spot it holds year-to-date. The Ford Ranger (+45.2%) is up four spots on September to #2 while the Peugeot 208 is up seven to #3. The event of the month is the 4th place of the BYD Dolphin, up 14 ranks on last month. It now ranks #42 year-to-date. The Hyundai Tucson (+228.6%), Hyundai Grand i10 (+250%), Toyota Land Cruiser (+75%) ad Kia K2700 (+140%) all secure market-beating scores in the remainder of the Top 10. The new Toyota Raize ranks at #6.
