During a television interview Jack Dorsey was asked about his experience of handling requests and demands from powerful people during his time as Twitter CEO. In response to the question, Dorsey claimed that the Indian government had threatened to shut down Twitter in India and raid the houses of Twitter employees if the company did not moderate the content related to the contemporary farmer’s protests in India.
This is a serious allegation against a democracy that in theory upholds the freedom of speech and journalism. The clipping on Twitter racked more than 2 million views and soon after the Indian Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar launched a scathing response on the same platform.
