The Kelana Jaya LRT line that spans Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur will achieve a frequency of one train every three minutes by the end of this month, transport minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said, as reported by The Star.
This would be achieved through operations of three new four-carriage trains along the line which commenced last month, he said. A further 16 trains would be received by the line and be deployed in stages until next year under the Kuala Lumpur Additional Vehicles 27 (KLAV27) project, according to the report.
“Train frequency along the line during peak hours improved from 4.4 minutes in December last year to 3.8 minutes in September. It is expected to reach three minutes by the end of this month,” Loke wrote in a written parliamentary reply today to a question on the transport ministry’s plans to increase public transport uptake.
Prasarana is implementing various measures for the Kelana Jaya LRT and Kajang MRT lines, including the repair of faulty train components. Train wheels for the Kajang MRT line are being replaced, and peak hour frequencies should improve from six minutes to four minutes by the end of January. “An overhaul and midlife refurbishment project for trains on both lines is also in the works,” Loke said.
