The authorities have took note of a viral video on WhatsApp purportedly showing a cracked structure of the Penang Bridge and have come out to deny that there’s any such damage on the Penang Bridge as well as the second bridge, officially known as the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah bridge.
According to a statement by highway authority LLM, the board and the works ministry said that the video has long been circulating and it is not from Malaysia. PLUS and Jambatan Kedua Sdn Bhd (JKSB) – operators of the respective bridges that connect Penang island to the mainland – have investigated and found no such damage on the bridges. JKSB has lodged a police report.
The works ministry and LLM advises all parties to not share inaccurate information that will cause misunderstanding and worry among users of the two Penang bridges. Basically, tak pasti, jangan kongsi.
